Victim Advocates- Gallatin, Murfreesboro, Columbia

Legal Aid Society has immediate openings for Victim Advocates in its Murfreesboro, Gallatin and Columbia offices.  The Victim Advocates will work with survivors of domestic violence in the multi-county territory served by each office.  A qualified applicant will be able to understand the law and issues pertaining to orders of protection and assist victims in identifying holistic needs and in securing rights, remedies, and appropriate services from other agencies.  The Victim Advocates will also provide court accompaniment to clients, provide information on criminal victim compensation, provide community education, and maintain and develop positive working relationships with community agencies and law enforcement.  These positions are funded by a VOCA grant from the Office of Criminal Justice Program and the Victim Advocates must adhere to goals and outcomes spelled out in the grant contract.



High School diploma or GED required; BA/BS is preferred. Access to transportation required. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus. Prior experience working in the legal field is preferred. Must be sensitive and committed to providing high quality legal and advocacy services to domestic violence victims and low-income people. Strong client interviewing, written, and verbal skills are a must. Ability to understand the law and issues pertaining to orders of protection. Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills. Must be able to follow directions and work both, within a team and independently. Ability to relate to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds. Strong typing and computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required. Experience with Legal Files database a plus. Ability to learn new computer skills.
