Immigration Paralegal- Open Location

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a VOCA Immigration Paralegal. Position may be located in any of our eight offices: Nashville, Gallatin, Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Tullahoma, Murfreesboro or Oak Ridge. Paralegal will also perform routine clerical and secretarial duties to support the activities of the staff attorneys, including drafting and typing legal documents, conducting intake, researching, compiling and drafting discovery, making telephone calls, transcribing dictation, data processing, case file maintenance, meeting with clients, and record keeping. Educate and advocate for low-income people.

These positions are funded by a VOCA grant from the Office of Criminal Justice Program and the Victim Advocates must adhere to goals and outcomes spelled out in the grant contract.

Qualifications:

Must be sensitive to and committed to providing high quality legal and advocacy services to immigrant victims of domestic violence and low-income people. Strong client interviewing, written and verbal skills are a must.  Ability to understand the law and issues pertaining to orders of protection.  Must be detailed oriented and have good organizational skills.  Must be able to follow directions and work with a team and independently.  Ability to relate to the needs of people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.  Strong typing and computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Legal Files database.  Ability to learn new computer skills.  Prior experience working in the legal field is preferred.  High School diploma or GED required; BA/BS is preferred.  Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.  Access to transportation.
