Family Law/Immigration Paralegal- Nashville

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a VOCA Family Law/Immigration Paralegal Position in its Nashville office.  The Paralegal provide case management assistance to Immigration and Family Law Attorneys. Perform routine clerical and secretarial duties to support the activities of the staff attorneys, including drafting and typing legal documents, conducting intake, researching, compiling and drafting discovery, making telephone calls, transcribing dictation, data processing, case file maintenance, meeting with clients, and record keeping. Educate and advocate for low-income people.

This position is funded in part by a VOCA Expansion grant and VOCA Immigration grant from OCJP and the victim advocate must adhere to goals and outcomes spelled out in each grant contract.

Qualifications:

Must be sensitive to and committed to providing high quality legal and advocacy services to domestic violence victims and low-income people. Strong client interviewing, written and verbal skills are a must.  Ability to understand the law and issues pertaining to orders of protection.  Must be detailed oriented and have good organizational skills.  Must be able to follow directions and work with a team and independently.  Ability to relate to the needs of people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.  Strong typing and computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Legal Files database.  Ability to learn new computer skills.  Prior experience working in the legal field is preferred.  High School diploma or GED required; BA/BS is preferred.  Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.  Access to transportation.
