Bilingual Intake Specialist

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a VOCA Family Law/Immigration Bilingual Intake Specialist Position in its Nashville office.  The Bilingual Intake Specialist will complete intakes on potential Immigration and Family Law clients and provide case handling and case management assistance to lawyers. Some community outreach in immigrant communities may be required. The intake specialist will also provide interpretation services and address the special needs of immigrant victims of domestic violence in a culturally sensitive way.

 

This position is funded in part by STOP and VOCA grants from OCJP and the intake specialist must adhere to goals and outcomes spelled out in the grant contracts.

 

Qualifications:

Must be able to effectively communicate in oral and written form in English, and a language other than English, Arabic or Spanish preferred. Must be sensitive to and committed to providing high quality legal and advocacy services to low-income people, victims of domestic violence, elderly people and immigrant communities. Must be very detailed oriented and have good organizational skills.  Must be able to follow directions and work with a team and independently.  Ability to relate to the needs of people of diverse backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal skills.  Strong typing and computer skills.  Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc).  Experience with Legal Files database a plus.  Ability to learn new computer skills quickly.  Minimum five years’ experience in social work setting and intake experience. High School Diploma or GED is required.
