Attorney – Oak Ridge
The Oak Ridge office is seeking an attorney to provide legal representation to eligible clients in civil cases, with a focus on family law, including victims of domestic violence, and housing law. As a part of a holistic approach, representation may include varying areas of law as needed. Participates in administrative advocacy, litigation in state and federal courts, and community education for clients in accordance with program guidelines and priorities and the Code of Professional Responsibility.
The duties and responsibilities include:
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Meets the requirements of any special funding source regarding substantive
area of practice, clients served and types of service offered.
• Reviews and supervises the work of support staff members and volunteers
done on behalf of attorney’s clients and clients assigned to support staff.
• In coordination with managing attorney, communicates and establishes
contacts with courts, local and state bar associations, community agencies and
local client groups.
• Acts as a resource for other staff in substantive areas of law in which attorney
develops a specialty.
• Participates in the firm’s community education program, by being available to
speak with community groups and agency staff, suggesting ideas for and
helping to prepare community education materials, and generally looking for
ways to alert clients to their legal rights and responsibilities in the field of
poverty law.
• Works with members of the private bar and with LAS’s pro bono staff to
promote private bar involvement.
• Uses basic capability of word processing, e-‐‑mail, and Legal Files database.
• Establishes and maintains professional working relationship with office staff.
• Participates on internal committees, work groups and other efforts to promote
and improve LAS’s operation.
• Becomes familiar with and complies with program policies and regulations of
the Legal Services Corporation and other funders.
• Becomes familiar with and complies with relevant portions of the Legal
Services Corporation’s Performance Criteria and with the American Bar
Association’s Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid.
• Performs such other duties as may be reasonably requested.
